Perth - A female baby giraffe born at the Perth Zoo three weeks ago appeared for the first time in front of visitors.

The giraffe baby is the result of the Perth Zoo's male giraffe friendship with a female giraffe named Kitoto.

Kitoto comes from the Nullarbor region, South Australia, which was brought to Perth in around 15 months.

It's no coincidence that 15 months is also the period of pregnancy for a giraffe. This shows that Armani and Kitoto did not waste time to breed.

In its first weeks, the young giraffe has been kept away from the public, so that it can spend time with its mother, and get used to the surrounding environment.

"Despite all the excitement of having a new baby, we want to give him plenty of time with Kitoto to create attachments, and then gradually introduce him to new things before he is ready to meet the public," Kaelene said.

"Our giraffe baby met Armani (his father) on the sixth day and he has proven himself to be an extraordinary mother."

The baby is also in the same cage as a female giraffe and two other zebras.
