Sumatran tigers in the forests of Aceh are on the brink of extinction - Coloring Pages For Kids
The Sumatran Tiger population (Panthera tigris sumatrae) in Aceh is currently at a critically endangered level to the extinct level. This condition is further aggravated by increasingly rampant poaching and narrowing of habitat.
The destruction of forests in the Veranda of Mecca, especially in the Aceh Leuser Ecosystem (KEL) is getting higher. Has made tiger habitat narrower the range of the region, thus worsening the sustainability of tigers in the Land of Rencong.
The largest tiger population is currently in the Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL), including in the Leuser Ecosystem Area (KEL). Sadly, the Aceh Nature and Environment Foundation (HAkA) found that every month it experienced a rate of forest destruction.

Like the Aceh KEL, the initial forest area covered an area of 2,255,577 hectares, with around 1.8 million hectares in June 2018. In the period of January June 2018, the area of the lost forest cover is estimated to be 3,290 hectares.
This is further compounded by findings from the Leuser Conservation Forum (FKL). From January to June 2018, the FKL patrol team found 389 hunting cases and found 25 hunters. It also seized 497 snares that have been installed at several points in the forest in Aceh KEL to hunt down hedgehogs, deer, deer, bears, tigers and elephants. In addition, they also found as many as 25 hunter camps.
During the first semester of 2018, FKL found 187 animal cases from 497 traps found. Based on the type of animal, 41 birds were found with 59 snares.
KEL is also the last place on earth where Sumatran Rhinos (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae), elephants (Elephas maximus sumatraensis) and orangutans (Pongo abelii) are together in the wild. If the rate of damage continues to increase, these protected animals are also increasingly threatened, both due to hunting and habitat loss so that animal conflicts occur with humans.

"The biggest threat is habitat pragmentation, because habitat is decreasing, so it is increasingly difficult to breed, to exist itself," said the Head of the Aceh Natural Environment Conservation Agency (BKSDA), Sapto Aji Prabowo, Sunday (8/19).
Sapto said that the tiger population in Aceh was at a critically endangered point to the extinct level. Currently there are 150-200 tigers left. Both in GLNP and in other forests.
Nationally and Sumatra the tiger population in Aceh is the largest. According to Sapto, if forest destruction continues to occur, poaching is increasingly rampant without any attempt to stop. Tiger populations in Aceh will be threatened.
Sapto said, the current high damage to forests in the lowlands has forced tigers to migrate to the mountains or hills, even being able to enter the people's plantations. This condition is also then the conflict between animals and humans cannot be avoided, so the community thinks that the tiger is considered a pest.
"Then there is a conflict and this can encourage further deaths, then be considered a pest by the community," he said.
According to Sapto, there is still a lot of hunting for wild animals in Aceh, and there are still many people collecting protected animals. The high demand at lucrative prices has sparked hunters to hunt and trade them.
