New Type of Dinosaur Found in Utah, Its Head Spikes Like Thorns - Bluelotus
In 2008, researchers found fossils of dinosaurs from the ankylosaurus family at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah. Unlike the ankylosaurus that has been discovered, fossils of this dinosaur have spiky head bones that resemble thorns.Ankylosaurids are a family of steel-skinned herbivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Cretaceous period, between 100 and 66 million years ago. After being studied for 10 years, experts believe that the dinosaurs they found in Utah were the latest in their kind.
By experts, this dinosaur was named Akainacephalus johnsoni and is believed to be 76 million years old. The name was taken from Greek which is a combination of two words.

"Akaina" which means thorn and "cephalus" which means head. When combined, the meaning is the same as a thorny head. Giant Fossils First Answer Most ankylosaurs found in North America have fine bones as head protectors.

In a report published in the journal PeerJ on Thursday (07/19/2018), researchers suspect there was a migration of dinosaurs from Asia to America in the late Cretaceous period. When the sea level recedes, A. johnsoni and a close relative of Nodocephalosaurus travel the land and arrive in America.
"This (actually) is not the first ankylosaurus of the Cretaceous period found in Utah. Thanks to the findings of this special creature, the evidence of the northern and southern regions of Laramidia used during the Campanian period was getting stronger, "said the lead author of this study, Jelle Wiersma.
